56 Bhog | Chappan Bhog

56 Bhog is a grand food offering made to Hindu deities, most famously Lord Krishna. It consists of fifty-six traditional vegetarian dishes, sweets, and beverages. Legend says the gopis once prepared these items for Krishna during the Govardhan Hill event. The spread includes grains, lentils, puris, kheer, laddoos, and various fruits. Each item is cooked in pure ghee without using onion or garlic. Devotees arrange these delicacies neatly before the idol during festivals like Annakoot. After the ritual prayer, the food is shared as holy prasad with everyone. This custom shows deep devotion, gratitude, and a celebration of abundance. It remains a vibrant and sacred part of Hindu culture.
