Buy Modak Online in Mumbai: The Complete Ganpati 2026 Guide to Every Type of Modak

Ganesh Chaturthi is the one festival where the sweet is not an afterthought. It is the offering itself. This guide walks you through every kind of modak we make, what each one tastes like, how fresh it needs to be eaten, what it costs, and which one suits your ghar ka Ganpati, your pandal, or your corporate gifting list.

Short on Time?

Mawa Modak for the naivedya thali and house guests. Rs. 1,250 to Rs. 1,600 per kg.

Dry Fruit Modak for gifting and corporate hampers. Rs. 1,880 to Rs. 2,940 per kg.

Ghee Modak for pandals and bulk orders. Rs. 1,040 to Rs. 1,480 per kg.

Two ways to buy: By weight in 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg packs, or in a presentation cavity box at a flat Rs. 70 per modak across every variety.

38 varieties live now, more coming soon. Every modak is best eaten within 3 days. Same-day delivery across Mumbai on orders confirmed before 3 pm.

Ask anyone in Mumbai what Ganpati smells like and the answer is usually the same: fresh mawa, warm ghee, and a kitchen that has been running since four in the morning. For eleven days the city runs on modak, and the question in every household is not whether to order, but which one and how much.

If you are looking to buy modak online in Mumbai this year, the choice is wider than the two or three varieties most people grew up with. MM Mithaiwala has 38 modak varieties live right now across three broad families, ranging from a Motichur Modak at Rs. 1,040 a kilo to a Dry Fruit Surahi Modak at Rs. 2,940 that doubles as a gift in its own right. Several more varieties are being added to the site through the season. Here is how to pick.

Why Modak Is the Sweet Ganpati Asks For

The story most Maharashtrian families tell is straightforward. Lord Ganesha’s fondness for modak is why he is called Modakapriya, and why the naivedya thali on Chaturthi almost always carries twenty-one of them. The shape has stayed the same for generations, and so has the reason for offering it.

What has changed is the scale. A household making one batch a morning is a different problem from a family hosting fifty guests across five-days, or an office sending hampers to two hundred clients. That is where the mithai counter comes in. A mawa, dry fruit or ghee modak carries the same shape, the same intent and the same place on the thali, without anyone having to be up at four in the morning to make it.

The Three Modak Families, and What Separates Them

Every modak we make falls into one of three families. Once you know which family you are shopping in, choosing the specific variety is easy. The quickest way to narrow it down is by taste, texture and occasion.

Mawa Modak: The Classic Ganpati Sweet

Mawa modak is what most people picture when they think of a store-bought modak. Khoya is cooked down, flavoured, and hand-shaped into the traditional peak. The texture is soft and dense, the sweetness is rounded rather than sharp, and it is the safest choice when you are feeding a mixed group of guests.

Twelve mawa and malai varieties are live. The starting point is the Sada Mawa Modak at Rs. 1,250 per kg, plain and traditional, with Mathura Modak and Kaju Mawa Modak alongside it at Rs. 1,280.

From there the range opens up into Special Mawa Modak, Cake Peda Modak and the Tiranga Mawa Modak at Rs. 1,400, a three-colour version that photographs beautifully on a festive thali.

The Chocolate Mawa Modak, also Rs. 1,400, offers a contemporary festive option for children and younger guests.

Above that sit Kesar Badam Peda Modak and Rangoli Modak at Rs. 1,430, Kesar Elaichi Modak at Rs. 1,480 for anyone who wants saffron and cardamom, and the malai group, Malai Cake Modak at Rs. 1,330 and Malai Peda Modak at Rs. 1,600, both lighter and creamier on the palate.

Price Band: Rs. 1,250 to Rs. 1,600 per kg, or Rs. 70 per modak in a cavity box.

Dry Fruit Modak: The Gifting Range

If the modak is going out of your house rather than staying in it, this is the range to shop. Dry fruit modak is built on kaju, badam, pista, anjeer and khajur rather than khoya, which makes it richer, firmer and considerably more substantial in a gift box.

Kaju Katli Modak by MM Mithaiwala

Eighteen varieties are live, the widest of the three families. The entry point is the Kaju Katli Modak at Rs. 1,880 per kg, the familiar cashew barfi reshaped for the festival, followed by Khajur Roll Modak at Rs. 2,000, Kesar Katli Modak at Rs. 2,140, Kaju Roll Modak at Rs. 2,200 and Pista Modak at Rs. 2,240.

Special Jada Kaju Katli Modak at Rs. 2,370 and Pineapple Kaju Katli Modak at Rs. 2,400 sit a notch above.

At the premium end you have Kesar Jada Modak and Anjeer Katli Modak at Rs. 2,630, Kaju Cake Modak at Rs. 2,680, Mix Fruit Modak and Kaju Parwal Modak at Rs. 2,730, Anjeer Modak at Rs. 2,800, then Honey Ball Modak, Honey Kasturi Modak and Anjeer Kadam Modak at Rs. 2,860, and Dry Fruit Surahi Modak and Shahi Barfi Modak at Rs. 2,940.

Price Band: Rs. 1,880 to Rs. 2,940 per kg, or Rs. 70 per modak in a cavity box.

Ghee Modak: The Traditional, Everyday Range

The ghee family is the most old-fashioned of the three, and often the most nostalgic. These are the sweets your grandmother would have recognised: besan, khoprapak, mohanthal and sattu cooked in pure ghee, then shaped into modak. It is also the most affordable family, which makes it suitable for larger quantity orders.

Eight varieties are live. The Motichur Modak at Rs. 1,040 per kg is the lowest-priced modak on the site, with Special Motichur Modak at Rs. 1,250 and Dry Fruit Motichur Modak at Rs. 1,480 above it.

Alongside them sit Khoprapak Modak at Rs. 1,200, Besan Modak at Rs. 1,220, Mohanthal Modak at Rs. 1,230, and Kesar Khoprapak Modak and Sattu Modak at Rs. 1,380.

Price Band: Rs. 1,040 to Rs. 1,480 per kg, or Rs. 70 per modak in a cavity box.

Modak Comparison at a Glance

Range Live Texture Per kg Best For
Mawa and Malai Modak 12 Soft, dense, milky Rs. 1,250 to 1,600 Naivedya, house guests, everyday festival eating
Dry Fruit Modak 18 Firm, rich, nutty Rs. 1,880 to 2,940 Gifting, corporate hampers, presentation boxes
Ghee Modak 8 Grainy, warm, traditional Rs. 1,040 to 1,480 Pandal orders, bulk quantity, everyday prasad

All three families are best enjoyed within 3 days of packing, so the choice is primarily about taste, texture and occasion.

Two Ways to Buy: By Weight or by the Box

Every live variety can be ordered two ways, and the right one depends on whether you are feeding people or gifting to them.

By Weight

The traditional way to order. Pick 250 g, 500 g or 1 kg, and the modaks come packed loose in a standard box. Pricing scales cleanly with weight, so a 250 g pack is exactly a quarter of the kilo price with no premium for the smaller size. This is the more economical route when the modak is being eaten at home or served to guests.

Pack Size Roughly Serves Price Range Typical Use
250 g About 15 pieces Rs. 260 to Rs. 735 Small households, sampling a new variety, add-on to a hamper
500 g About 30 pieces Rs. 520 to Rs. 1,470 Standard family box
1 kg About 60 pieces Rs. 1,040 to Rs. 2,940 Guests, pandal and office orders

By the Box

The gifting route. Modaks are set into a fitted cavity box so every piece arrives intact and presented, which is what you want when the box is being handed over rather than opened at home. Cavity boxes are priced per modak rather than per kilo, at a flat Rs. 70 a piece across every single variety.

Box Modaks Price
12 Cavity Blue Box 12 Rs. 840
16 Cavity Blue Box 16 Rs. 1,120
20 Cavity Blue Box 20 Rs. 1,400
24 Cavity Pink Box 24 Rs. 1,680
24 Cavity Green Box 24 Rs. 1,680
30 Cavity Special Box 30 Rs. 2,100

The pink and green 24 cavity boxes hold exactly the same modaks in the same quantity. The only difference is the colour of the box.

How to Choose Your Modak

Most people are solving one of five problems. Here is the shortest path to each.

If you are ordering for a five-day Ganpati at home, the practical answer is usually two orders rather than one. A larger weight pack of mawa or motichur for the days you are actually doing the naivedya, and a cavity box of something from the dry fruit range for the visitors you know are coming.

Modak Home Delivery in Mumbai

Modak orders are delivered across Mumbai, with orders confirmed before 3 pm reaching you the same day, usually within three to four hours. Everything is made to order rather than pulled off a shelf.

Every modak we make is best eaten within 3 days of packing, across all three families and all 38 varieties. Nothing carries preservatives. That is a short window by design, and it is the reason a mawa modak from the counter tastes like one made at home rather than one that has been sitting in a carton. Plan the order around the day you actually need it rather than buying a week ahead.

A word on timing. Ganpati week is the single busiest stretch of our year, and the varieties that go first are the ones people wait until the last day to order. If you know your guest count, placing the order three to four days before Chaturthi rather than the night before can give you more flexibility in choosing your preferred variety.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do your modaks stay fresh?

Three days from the date of packing, across every variety we make. Mawa, dry fruit and ghee modak all carry the same window. Nothing we make contains preservatives, which is why the window is short and why everything is made to order rather than stocked.

What is the difference between buying modak by weight and buying a cavity box?

By weight, you pick 250 g, 500 g or 1 kg and pay the per kilo price of that variety, which runs from Rs. 1,040 to Rs. 2,940. In a cavity box, you pick the number of modaks, 12, 16, 20, 24 or 30, and pay a flat Rs. 70 per modak whatever the variety. Weight is the more economical way to buy for the house. The cavity box is designed for gifting, because each modak arrives set in its own cavity rather than loose.

Is there any difference between the pink and green 24 cavity boxes?

Only the colour of the box. The contents, the count and the price are identical at Rs. 1,680 for 24 modaks.

Do you take bulk modak orders for pandals and offices?

Yes. The Motichur, Khoprapak and Besan varieties are options for volume orders. Because these are made fresh to order, tell us the date you need them for and we can plan the batch around it.

How many modaks should I order for Ganpati at home?

A kilogram is roughly 60 pieces, 500 g is about 30 and 250 g about 15. The offering is traditionally made in counts of 21, so a 500 g pack or a 24 cavity box provides enough pieces for a single-day offering with additional servings. For a five-day Ganpati with regular guests, households may choose a larger order once and a smaller fresh one midway through the week.

Do you make chocolate modak?

Yes. The Chocolate Mawa Modak at Rs. 1,400 per kg is part of the Ganpati 2026 range.

What is the cheapest modak you sell?

Motichur Modak, at Rs. 1,040 per kg or Rs. 260 for 250 g.
